outside bambey

outside bambey
in much of west africa, there is a water table that runs just 8 metres below ground that is tapped for wells. it sits over a “salt lens” further under ground, which due to excessive well pumping during the dry season, contaminates the regular water table with a tremendous amount of salt. its truly horrible to drink. i tried it once…it tasted like drinking contact lens saline solution.

but that is the only source of water available, so its regular consumption makes high blood pressure a rampant problem, even in the very young. it also leaves children, dehydrated from other illnesses, to drink water that will only make their situation worse.

on the day i took this photo, a team of missionary engineers was in this boy’s community to do the initial survey work to construct a system of wells and water access that would bypass this problem entirely. hope in a dark place.

Day 90 – Lost Lens

Day 90 - Lost Lens
I lost my first contact lens. I’d put them both in saline that two days prior intending to wear them further. As time went by I decided I ought to finally swap it out and put in the solution so I could wear them the next day. The left lens went fine. I kept it on my finger while dumping out the saline. The right lens? Not so well. I straight out dumped it. Not smart, I know. Blah, blah. It was about time to open a new pair so I can fudge it a bit.
